Seeded Exposed Aggregate
Seeded concrete used in paved areas is becoming increasingly popular with clients able to select from a wide range of colour pigments to shade the concrete and then choose an imported decorative pebble from companies such as DécoR Pebble to match or contrast the mortar colour. To install, concrete is placed, screeded and bullfloated to the finished level. After the bleedwater has evaporated, the selected aggregate is sprinkled over the surface. The aggregate is fully embedded by tamping and wood floating. Aggregate size is generally 10-15mm, although larger sizes can be used without difficulty.Aggregate exposure begins when the surface can bear the weight of the pavior without making an impression deeper than 2mm. A broom together with a continuous water spray then washes away the cement paste, exposing about a third of the seeded pebble. A light acid wash and the application of a clear acrylic sealer cleans up the surface and highlights the natural full colour of the selected aggregate.
